The calendar says that spring is not too far off, but with snow still on the ground, it’ll be a white Christmas for the Smiths in Yorktown High School’s production of “Meet Me in St. Louis,” the charming chestnut of a musical that tells the story of a lawyer, his family and the Great Exposition that put St. Louis on the map.
The Judy Garland musical — which has the saddest Christmas song ever, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” — is decidedly old school, with lots of story and enough song and dance to keep things interesting. And the title song lets us hear one of the strangest lyrics in the musical-theater canon: “We will dance the “Hoochie-Koochie”: I will be your “Tootsie-Wootsie.”
Here’s the Running Lines video I shot at Yorktown. Enjoy.
