The Broadway production of “Matilda” today announced the four young actresses who’ll share the title role in alternating performances — and one of them has ties to the Lower Hudson Valley.
Sharing the role with Ava are Paige Brady, Gabriella Pizzolo and Ripley Sobo. Sobo is a Broadway veteran, having appeared in the musical “Once.” The other actresses are making their Broadway debuts.
The demanding role, is now played by Scarsdale’s Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon and Milly Shapiro, who shared a special Tony Award last spring for their work in the musical. A production spokeswoman, Jackie Green of Boneau/Bryan-Brown, said the new actresses would be phased into the production over the next six weeks or so.
Random Farms, started by Anya Wallach years ago, has had some high-profile castings recently. Two of the youngest von Trapps in NBC’s much-discussed live performance of “The Sound of Music” also train at the Elmsford facility.
