Theater is a collaborative art, so it’s fun to see when two groups join forces to dream up something that becomes bigger than the sum of its parts.
That’s the case in Wesley Hills on Sunday, when Antrim Playhouse and Helen Hayes Youth Theater gather to cast a multigenerational production of “A Christmas Carol,” the version with Alan Menken music and Lynn Ahrens lyrics that ran for several seasons at Madison Square Garden.
Danielle Rudess, the mind behind HHYT (and the producer of the Metro Awards) says the groups plan “to dress the Antrim Playhouse up like a little Victorian playhouse and bring ‘A Christmas Carol’ to life” in what she hopes will become an annual tradition.
At this point, though, it’s a plan, a page-bound dream.
Director Michael Chase Gosselin comes to the project fresh from working on “Moby Dick” for Sir Cameron Mackintosh.
The auditions will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at HHYT’s Nyack rehearsal studios, 142 Main St.
Those seeking roles should bring sheet music to 16 bars of music from any contemporary musical theater or pop song of their choice. There will also be a short dance audition so wear shoes and clothes that to move in. The audition will take approximately one hour. Callbacks will take place Sept. 29.

Rehearsals will be Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the HHYT Studios, but not every cast member will be called to every rehearsal.
Performances are at 7 p.m., Dec. 13, 14, 20 and 21 and at 2 p.m., Dec. 21 and 22 at Antrim Playhouse, 15 Spook Rock Road, Wesley Hills.
Gosselin needs a lot of singer-dancer-actors.
