Changing my musicals hat into my high-school-arts hat (a top hat for a fedora) to chat with Tori Fried, a senior at Ossining High School who is old school when it comes to photography.
She shoots on actual film. Remember film?
Tori does, and prefers it to digital photography for a few reasons.
She likes that the roll holds only a certain number of shots, forcing her to compose her photographs instead of clicking off a hundred digital images.
She also likes the surprise she encounters when she develops rolls of film and prints a contact sheet.
The Art Institute of Chicago liked what they saw when they reviewed her portfolio. Tori will be a freshman at the exclusive art school next fall.
Here’s a bit of my chat with Tori, which includes a mention of Ossining’s district-wide art show, kicking off tomorrow at Ossining Public Library and featuring the work of kindergartners through seniors like Tori.
I’ll have a story in Monday’s paper.
(Thanks to Brad Morrison for putting me in touch with Tori.)
