Adam Santagata has played young men in love before.
The Walter Panas High School senior was Freddy Eynsford-Hillin “My Fair Lady” last year, head over heels with Eliza Doolittle to the point where he was even infatuated with her address. Last fall, he was Rolf, the 17-going-on-18 Austrian telegraph delivery boy in love with a 16-going-on-17 Liesl von Trapp in “The Sound of Music.”
This spring, he’s Harold Hill, the con man who knows better than to fall in love with an Iowa librarian but can’t help himself in “The Music Man.”
“Everything Harold does he has done thousands of times,” Santagata says. “He has to put on this act until the end when his act starts falling apart. I guess he never fell in love this way.”
Santagata willstudy engineering at Rochester Intstitute of Technology in the fall, but hopes to keep his theater habit alive.
“In my early years of high school, I was just floating around, doing a bunch of different sports, trying stuff out. Then a friend suggested I try theater and I’ve had a great time. I love going to rehearsal every day and singing. It’s just great.“
Sounds like a young man in love — with theater.

Thought you might get a kick out of these cute candid shots of Santagata and Bernadette Barrett, who plays Mrs. Paroo, hamming it up during a break between songs.
