The ovation was deafening. And the coolest thing: Every. One. Stood.
As the kids from Stepinac took the stage, high-fiving producer Keith Sunderland on their way up the steps, they hugged each other as Sunderland took to the podium.
“Our director always tells us to be prepared when we go on stage. I am not prepared for this. I want to thank God for the talent in this room. And the parents who raise the money. If it’s not locked down, we’ll sell it. We need to thank Charlotte Newman, our choreographer, our music director Chloe Sasson, and I’m blessed to have an amazing director at the head of this drama club, Frank Portanova. The most important group of our drama club is our lifeblood,” he says, pointing to the students. “Congratulations to you guys.”

This was an amazing night!!! After 5 years of trying to get tkts to this event, we finally got the call. We are not affiliated with any HS, but are advocates of HS musicals. Therefore, we try to go see a play every weekend during the season. What talent out there!!! We are so happy for Mykaela Copeland, she embraced that role with courage and compassion and made it her own as Aida. We are just as happy for Albert as the Phantom. When he sang You could hear a pin drop, both in tonight’s performance and the 2 times we went to see it!!!!!! Of course, it goes without saying the elaborate production of this amazing cast, and the other nominees! We were proud to be audience members of 12 different performances!!!! Congratulations to all nominees, you are an amazing group of students!!!!
