Westchester’s getting all cutting edge — and it appears that the tiny Westchester Sandbox Theatre is the epicenter of it.
Having just produced the New York regional premiere of “Next to Normal,” WST will host another regional premiere (by Little Radical Theatrics) — of the hysterical, pseudo-historical “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” — the weekends of May 25 and June 1.
But first, auditions, which will be held tonight (Monday) and Thursday (Thursday) from 7 to 10 p.m. at ArtsWestchester, 31 Mamaroneck Ave., in White Plains. Little Radical comprises twentysomethings who want to try their hand in a non-Equity production of rarely seen works, most recently “Wild Party.”
Here’s how they describe “Bloody Bloody,” a cult favorite on Broadway, starring Ben Walker as the irreverent title character:
“Equal parts sketch comedy, underground rock concert, and a revisionist history lesson, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON tells the story of America’s first political maverick. A.J. kicked British butt, shafted the Indians and smacked down the Spaniards all in the name of these United States–who cares if he didn’t have permission?”
