Running Lines: “Once Upon a Mattress” at Clarkstown North

You never know what you’re going to find when you set foot in a school to visit a rehearsal for a musical. Yesterday at Clarkstown North, I dropped in and saw a busy Tim Reid heading off to meet with the stage crew, having handed directing duties off to Claudia Stefany, a veteran of Elmwood Playhouse and Stage Left Children’s Theater. And another “ringer” was on hand: Cal Chiang, a longtime director/choreographer of Mamaroneck’s senior musical who directed at Elmwood and at Pearl River.
The show is “Once Upon a Mattress” and the kids were in pretty good shape. Megan Ryan’s Princess Fred is funny, and freshman Steven Kahn will steal plenty of scenes as Prince Dauntless the Drab. I predict he’s one to watch.
Here’s the Running Lines video from North. Enjoy.
