St. Germain’s ‘Freud’ switches offices
The doctor will see you — elsewhere — as Mark St. Germain’s hit play “Freud’s Last Session” moves from a Y auditorium on Central Park West to the 199-seat Stage 5 at New World Stages, a stone’s throw from Times Square, on Oct. 7.
The official re-opening night will be Oct. 16 for the 80-minute play by Pound Ridge resident St. Germain (seen above in a photo by Frank Becerra Jr.)
It involves a meeting between C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud on the day that World War II breaks out. In fact, it includes a reenactment of the king’s speech—yes, that king’s speech.
“Freud’s Last Session” won the 2011 Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Play and stars Mark H. Dold as C.S. Lewis and Martin Rayner as Sigmund Freud. It is now in its second year in New York, with productions planned in London, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles and elsewhere in 2012.
The New York production takes up residence in New World Stages, which is quickly becoming the place where Broadway shows go after Broadway. “Avenue Q,” “Rent” and “Million Dollar Quartet” are there now. “Freud” is directed by Tyler Marchant.
Tickets at the New World Stages website.
