Donald Margulies has made a name for himself writing plays that explore the inner workings of personal relationships — Margulies the Intimate — in works such as “Time Stands Still” and his Pulitzer Prize-winning “Dinner with Friends.”
Starting this weekend, Stony Point audiences young and old will see a different Margulies — Margulies the Epic — in Penguin Rep’s production of “Shipwrecked! An Entertainment: The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as told by himself).”
Directed by Thomas Caruso (who also directed Penguin’s season-opener, “Greetings!”) the three-person play tells the true story of Louis de Rougemont, who claimed to have set sail from England to see the world — only to be cast away on a island where he remained stranded for 30 years.
De Rougement wowed Victorian England with stories of his adventure.
The cast of “Shipwrecked!” is David Arkema, Edena Hines and Steven Hauck (in the title role).
A small cast telling an epic adventure was the winning combination for last season’s Penguin production of Mark Brown’s “Around the World in 80 Days,” a production of which is now playing Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in Garrison.
