“Tommy can you hear me?”
The New Generation Theatre — the brainchild of Justin Boccitto and Sol Bloch — put out feelers for a home for its inaugural season and production of “The Who’s Tommy.” Would it be at Fieldstone, where Bloch teaches? Or at Clarkstown South, where Boccitto leads the musicals and where Clarkstown Summer Theater Festival is on hiatus, leaving a vacancy?
The answer is neither.
Boccitto says he has reached a collaboration with Danielle Rudess’ Helen Hayes Youth Theatre for New Generation to use Helen Hayes’ Nyack studio — and the Riverspace stage where HHYT performs — for its production of “Tommy.”
Registration has been extended to June 24 and can be arranged by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by checking out the New Generation Theatre website.
Auditions begin July 6 for the six-week musical-theatre intensive for young performers from grade 8 through graduating seniors. Rehearsals will be Mondays through Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The program starts July 11 with performances Aug. 18, 19 and 20.
Auditions and rehearsals for the program will take place at the Helen Hayes Studios in Nyack. The production will be co-directed by Bloch and Boccitto, with musical direction by Bloch and choreography by Boccitto.
