As it wraps up “Shooting Star” (which stars Broadway vets Karen Ziemba and Gregg Edelman) at the end of this week, Penguin Rep Theatre is about to turn to Verne, Jules Verne, with the comic adventure “Around the World in 80 Days.”
The run for the Mark Brown adaptation is Aug. 13 through Sept. 5 at the cozy barn theater in Stony Point. Direction is by Thomas Caruso, who helped to fully realize the heart of Tom Dudzick’s “Over the Tavern” earlier in the Penguin season.
“Around the World in 80 Days” is, of course, the story of Phileas Fogg’s attempt to circumnavigate the globe to win a bet.
The Penguin cast includes Penguin vet Sam Guncler (“The Goldman Project”) as Fogg, Michael Keyloun (“The 39 Steps”), Bushra Laskar, Hillel Meltzer, and Andy Prosky. The sets are by Joseph J. Egan, costumes by Patricia E. Doherty, lights by Zachary Spitzer, and sound by Chris Rummel. Yumi Matsuura is the stage manager.
Performances ared Thursdays and Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 4 and 8, and Sundays at 2. Penguin Rep is at 7 Crickettown Road in Stony Point. Check out The Penguin Rep Website.
