Marni Nixon lends voice to Irvington fundraiser

September
29

You’ve heard Marni Nixon even if you didn’t know it.

She sang for Natalie Wood in “West Side Story,” Deborah Kerr in “The King & I” and Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady.”

I interviewed Nixon a few years back when she came to Irvington for a concert. Read that story here. And Oct. 17 she’ll be back at the Irvington Town Hall Theater, to headline the Clocktower Players’ season-opening gala.

In years past, the Players have presented staged readings featuring Dobbs Ferry’s Jane Alexander, a proud grandma of children in the Clocktower program.

This year, plays give way to music: a cabaret evening called “Sophisticated Fun.”

Appearing with Nixon will be Broadway stars Cris Groenendaal (“Sweeney Todd,” “Phantom of the Opera”), Juliet Ewing (“Footloose”), Terri Klausner (“Sophisticated Ladies,” “Evita”), Terry Rakov (“Hello, Dolly!”), Clocktower alums and Broadway stars Idara Victor (“Les Miz,” “Tin Pan Alley Rag,” Clocktower Players’ “Purlie”), Nicolas Barasch (direct from the current Broadway production of “West Side Story”), Hastings alum Lili Thomas (direct from regional premiere’s of “Rent” and “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) and Alexander’s son, Jace (“Assassins”) and daughter-in-law, Maddie Corman (“Next Fall”).

Also featured are Irvington’s Martin Zeliger – who will serve as Master of Ceremonies – and Clocktower’s Eva Cox, George Croom, Jocelyn Jones, René O’Neal, Julius Petty, Larry Reina, Lisa Spielman, and Irvington’s Bonnie Rofé and Jon Scott (TV host of “Happening Now”).

The evening is flanked by pre- and post-show receptions in the theater, at 85 Main St.

Tickets range from $200 (includes 7 p.m. pre-show reception, premium seating for the 8 p.m. performance, listing in the program and the post-show reception); $75 (includes performance, listing in the program and post-show reception); and $50 (includes performance and post-show reception).
