Out of their armchairs, ready for “Kate”

August
17

Sometimes, reading a play requires getting up and giving it a try.

Members of Brewster Theater Company’s play-reading group — The Armchair Actors — will be doing just that at their next meeting, Aug. 26, as they read and sing “Kiss Me, Kate,” Cole Porter’s musical take on “The Taming of the Shrew.”

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Brewster Public Library on Main Street in Brewster.

The reading, an email tells me, will be open to teens and adults. They’ll read and sing along to the 1948 cast album, with songs that include “Another Op’nin’, Another Show”, “Too Darn Hot”, and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.”

Sounds like they won’t be in those armchairs for long.

Pre-registration by Sunday, Aug. 23 is requested to help plan material, however walk-ins are always welcome.  To register for the August meeting or to submit original plays for future consideration please contact Carolyn at 845-598-1621 or cadams@brewstertheater.org.
