Auditions: “Dracula” at Hand to Mouth

If you want to have “Dracula” at Halloween, you have to audition in August and that’s what director Melinda O’Brien is doing next week. Melinda, half of the M&M in M&M productions (with her husband, Michael Muldoon), directs the show at Hand to Mouth Players, which will run Oct. 22 to Nov. 1.

The Hand to Mouth Players announce auditions for “Dracula (The Vampire Play)” dramatized by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston from Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.”

A comic melodrama set in Britain in the 1920’s. In Purley, just outside of London, lies Dr. Seward’s sanatorium, in which his daughter Lucy is dying of a mysterious malady. When Van Helsing arrives and uncovers the cause of her illness, he, Seward, and Harker join in a race against time to save Lucy and them all from a powerful terror that rules by night and feeds… on human blood…..

8 characters needed, 2 must be men and 2 must be women, the rest are flexible
Dracula – suave, mysterious, European type
Lucy – 20s-30s young woman under the spell of Dracula
Harker – 20s-30s Lucy’s fiance
Maid – Lucy’s maid any age
Renfield – lunatic, usually male
Dr. Seward – Lucy’s father, runs a hospital/lunatic asylum
Abraham Van Helsing – worldly, very intelligent
Attendant – keeper of the lunatics
Also needed: Stage Manager, production crew
