All things theatrical

A dispatch from The Jimmys

June
26

Michelle Rubich of Briarcliff and Aaron Sauer of Sloatsburg woke up at NYU this morning, ready for Day 2 of the National High School Musical Theater Awards.

The best-actress and best-actor Metro winners are taking part in the inaugural “JImmy” Awards. The five-day event culminates in Monday’s big ceremony and show at NYU’s Skirball Center. I’ll be there for that and will blog about it next week. But in the meantime, Michelle and Aaron have agreed to take us along for the ride, emailing me their thoughts about the whole event.

Here’s Michelle’s first post:

“So, far, i love it!. I find the “awards” so far to be very organized, especially considering it’s an inaugural event. All of the students are so open and friendly which made the first day a lot easier.

“We rehearsed from 7 to 10 p.m. on the opening and closing numbers of the show. We all split into voice parts (I’m an alto) and “sight-read” the music. (It was supposed to be memorized). Every performer sounded amazing, and even better as an entire chorus. I have never seen youth talent like I did last night! I can’t even describe the talent that i saw in the blackbox theater!

“Because most people – like myself – were so excited to be at NHSMTA’s, they didn’t get any sleep. It took me an hour and a half to just close my eyes, but then wake up at 6:45 AM. So Aaron, my roommate, and I are about to go eat breakfast. I’m sure I’ll have A LOT more to “blog” about tomorrow!!”
