“Second Love” to tour LoHud

June
15

Mark Jacobs, a local playwright, doesn’t have to travel far to see his new romantic comedy: It will be touring a few local venues.

Here’s a release.

“Second Love,“ a new romantic comedy by Mark Jacobs, asks the question: What comes after first love?  Before opening in New York City, “Second Love” is on tour for three weeks in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties.  The schedule is as follows:
• Sat., June 27, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Chappaqua Library (Free, $15 suggested donation)
• Fri., July 3 and Sat., July 4, 7 p.m. at the Philipstown Depot Theatre in Garrison ($15, $12 seniors)
• Fri., July 10 and Sat., July 11, 7 p.m. at the Nyack Village Theatre in Nyack ($15)

The play is directed by veteran actor director Danielle Quisenberry and has a stellar cast of NYC actors including John Gardner as Ross; Kate Geller as Kate; Heidi Jackson as Emily; Kenric Green as Scott; and child actress Claire Joseph as Lily.

The play follows Kate and Ross, a young upwardly mobile Manhattan couple, as they struggle through their first years of marriage and find that the attraction that drew them together is in need of an emotional overhaul.

Enter LIL, a virtual reality device. When Ross dons the machine, he enters a world in which he becomes a character in a story he can write and rewrite himself; a story which can make all his dreams come true. Enticed by the possibility of living out all his fantasies in the machine, Ross must decide whether to give up his marriage to Kate or to face life head-on.

The story of Ross and Kate’s journey goes beyond the platitudes of traditional romantic comedies. With some high-tech assistance, Kate and Ross learn about moving beyond the mythos of “happily ever after” to a deeper understanding of love and marriage as they explore Second Love.

Mark Jacobs is a local playwright who has had numerous one-act plays on stage in both NYC and the Hudson Valley.  He is also a teacher who co-founded the Longview School, a democratic, free school in Cortlandt Manor, New York.  Mr. Jacobs is the former chair of the Westchester Green Party and former candidate for Congress in the 19th Congressional District.
