I’ve been hearing from people telling me I missed the boat by not interviewing Samantha Cassano, who played Dolly in North Salem High School’s production of “Hello, Dolly!” last weekend. Sounds like she’s incredibly talented and we’ll be hearing from her soon. (I hope she’ll talk to me when she’s famous.) Anyway, it got me to thinking this blog could be a place to talk about great performances you’ve seen.
Live theater is great because of its capacity to electrify, but it’s also terribly fleeting, gone in an instant.
What performance did you see that will stay with you for awhile?

Yes it was a great show and the entire cast was spectacular. Samantha was outstanding and received a standing ovation for her performances. But one person doesnt make the show and their were many great preformances – Most notably Zach Uslianor, Trevor Rue, Phoebe Ford, Melanie Hublard Hershman and Liam Ryan. The dancers lead by Mackenzie Fauser were impressive along with the sixth graders. Congrats to Director Mr. Coates for putting on a great show in his inagural debut.
Samantha Cassano was superb as Dolly Levy in the recent NS HS production of ‘Hello Dolly’. I will remember her stage presence, the way she electrified the entire cast on stage and her voice! When Samantha sings and ‘belts’ out a song she has a voice to be reckoned with.
It brings the house down and to their feet! Not one standing ovation but two!
It was truly a great performance.
Samantha is an amazing person, singer and actor. Between her voice that made people want to yell, “encore” to her great stage presence her part as Dolly was well deserved. Being a senior with this much talent she is definatly one to be recognized. From her preformances, she gained the recognition of all of North Salem and more! Congrats, Sam!
Senior Nick Foster’s performance of Emile de Becque in Croton-Harmon High School’s production of South Pacific was absolutely riveting. From Some Enchanted Evening to This Nearly Was Mine (which may have been the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard sung by a high schooler) was amazing.
Samantha Cassano….a star is born! Well, born about 17 years ago or so…...
She commanded the stage every time she was on it. Her skills are impressive.
Her castmates were wonderful too.
To all involved: Thank you for a most enjoyable evening.
Hello Dolly – this past weekends FABULOUS production at North Salem HS, NY. The performance was outstanding, the cast was simply amazing! Samantha Cassano used her fantastic acting talents and skills to the delight of the entire audience. Playing off her fellow actors & actresses Sam charmed the crowd and pulled everyone into this wonderful and entertaining play. The talent of this senior, well, it floors me. Her stage presence, singing ability, how she assumed this role, and her great execution of lines will take this young lady far. My hats of to the entire cast and all those that worked so hard to produce such a professional broadway quality performance. To think these were kids from all grades 6-12 with Sam as the old 12th grader, well, it’s simply amazing. Thanks for a fantastic experience and afternoon…BRAVO!
what a play! It was just fantastic. After attending the performance twice, I am sure it is one that I will always remember. That cast was great. SAM was fabulous I adore her skill and talent. I also enjoyed liam Ryan, phoebe ford, and the little sixth graders were so cute. It was an excellent cast. In addition, the sets were wonderful. Thanks to Mr. Coates, Mrs. Rue, and all the other people who made this play possible from the hair stylists down to the helpers at the intermission snack table. Again Sam Cassano, what an excellent performer!
BRAVO to all involved in putting on the Hello Dolly production!!! Everything – sets, costumes, hair, dance numbers and music were wonderful but the acting is what made it fabulous. Zac, Pheobe, Melanie and Trevor were great. Liam Ryan kept everyone in stitches (I saw it 3 times and laughed just as hard each time). Sam, Sam, Sam what can I say. She has that big voice and commanding presence on stage that is unmatched. She will be missed next year. It is great to see that in a small town we have so much incredible talent.
Every year I’m blown away by the great North Salem productions…coming from Europe it’s absoluteyly “only in America” where they can pull this off! I really enjoyed it and thought that Dolly (Sam Cassano) was absolutely fantastic!! She came down the stairs (in red) at a certain point and it was almost as if Barbra herself came down..the stage presence, the confidence…
For sure she will be missed next year,... although there was absolutely more talent on the stage that (Friday-) night!Great performance; good job Sam!!
Sam! You did so well! Great job! You are an amazing singer and actress!
Wow, what a fantastic show!!! It was so much fun to watch the entire cast of Hello Dolly. I continue to marvel at the amazing talent of the middle school/high school cast. Everyone we took to the show was in awe ( and we took a lot of people!!). Some of their comments were…
“That Dolly was incredible, what talent!”.
“Barnaby was so funny!”
“Cornelius really was good. That boy just keeps getting better and better every year!”
“Cate is quite the dancer”
“Sean did a great job.”
“How do they all learn to dance so well?”
The entire cast should be proud of a job well done!!
I can’t wait to see next year’s production.
