Here’s this week’s “In the Wings” video, with on-camera reviews of “Molly Snyder” in Stony Point and “The Producers” at Westchester Broadway Theatre. Enjoy!
“This is one to miss” seems a bit extreme. To slam an entire production of VERY HARDWORKING & EXTREMELY TALENTED actors who give their all & are trying to make a living because the lead actor is not a clone of Nathan Lane seems unfair. Criticism is welcomed by actors when it is constructive in some way. What happened to “if you have nothing nice to say…”
I liked the production values, sets, lighting and costumes, and said so. I wasn’t looking for a Nathan Lane clone. I was looking for an actor who delivered a performance you could believe. Mel Brooks isn’t Ibsen, but when the lead actor fails to make the role believable, you’d better believe people are going to hear about. Should people pay $70 to see such a performance? In my opinion, no. I’ve enjoyed the work at the dinner theater of late—and have written as much in reviews of “Buddy” and “Beauty & the Beast.” But I wouldn’t be doing my job if I just wrote “Oh, it’s wonderful. Go see it” when, in fact, it’s not.
