HSTA: Overall Production of a Musical

The big magilla goes to…..

Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical: Rye Neck, “Cats”

Wow!

What a stunner!

What a great night.

Beth Leavel and Terrence Mann presented it to some very happy cats.

And everybody stood up and clapped.

The cats pounced onto the stage and, eventually, director Pat Rinello made her way to the podium, where one cat came up and hugged her.

“Everyone of you in this room is living a life that is blessed,” Rinello said, telling the crowd that work in the theater is vitally important to everyone who does it and sees it.

She asked for the house lights to be brought up, they were, and all the directors to stand up for a round of applause, they did.

Bravo.

  1. CATS

    STUNNER???????
    I DON’T THINK SO!

    THEY DESERVED IT!!!!

They deserved it. By “stunner,” I meant a school with 12 nominations comes away with one win and Rye Neck wins 3! I think that’s fairly stunning.

I enjoyed all of the performers.they are all so talented they fill everyone with such pride. In re:to it being a stunner, I agree. Stepinac having received 12 nominations definetely deserved more than just one win. Singing in the Rain was a fantastic show, with an incredible cast. They should be bursting with pride at all their accomplishments.I know I am.

I commend the High School Theatre Awards for trying to do a better job this year at making the HSTA legit and “FAIR”. In the past it seemed as if they handed out the awards like a card dealer passing out cards. One for you and one for you etc…. Having said that, I was curious and looked up the process for the TONY award nominations and how they are judged. All the judges have to see All the shows over the course of the year. I know there are a lot less shows to see on Broadway than our 39 shows, but to have a HSTA judge only view 3 shows and not have the 36 others to compare it to…… How is that a fair assessment of any of our shows?

Just to let you know, the kids from Pleasantville were the first to stand when the awards was announced. A few even smiled at those wonderful cats, now that’s showbiz! Don’t worry Pleasantville fans, we’ll be back next year!
